On 14-15-16 February 2008 the 'Cadence' Ensemble has performed in the play by Vigen Chaldranian at the Yerevan State Dramatic Theatre


THE VOICE OF SILENCE OR THE SIXTH COMMANDMENT by Vigen Chaldranian and Gurgen Khandjian Synopsis of the Play in Two Acts By genre it is a tragicomedy, love story of a film director and a homeless young lady living at a big city’s landfill. The performance is lead by two actors accompanied by cinema elements screened at the stage back and expressive live music. An American film director of Armenian origin who moved from Armenia to the USA before the disastrous Sptak earthquiake of 1988, came to Armenia of our days to make a film. John (the hero) is well established film director working in Hollywood, who years ago has married a rich American-Armenian lady. The hero stays in permanent touch with his motherland and knows well what is happening in present-day Armenia. In spite of critical attitude to many aspects of life in Armenia he cannot stay far from his native Yerevan: his devoted love to the city and its people brings him to Armenia to realize a new film project. Now he is in Armenia with his film crew also accompanied by his wife. Looking for new film shooting landscapes he appears at one of the Yerevan city’s trash dump where one could meet homeless people, rats, wild dogs and animal catchers hunting for the dogs. He encounters there a young homeless lady who appeared at the trash dump two-three years ago after passing through terrible circumstances of being victim of trafficking and undergoing medical treatment at mental hospital. The heroine is former actress who in spite of numerous tragical happenings in her life remains romantic, open-minded and extremely attractive lady. The hero fell in love to Aitsemik (name of the heroine) and she reciprocates his feelings. But at the moment when lovers are at the pick of their happiness a dog hunter’s stray bullet hit the heroine. An awful thing happens but audience has no feeling that heroine is dead and the sweeping love story comes to end. The whole story is full of romanticism reinforced by deeply touching music of Astor Piazzolla.
